Scaling & Root Planing
Non-surgical treatment for early and moderate gum disease.
Scaling and root planing is a deep cleaning procedure used to treat gum disease by removing:
- plaque and tartar
- bacteria below the gumline
This helps reduce inflammation and allows the gums to heal.
This treatment is often recommended for patients with:
- bleeding gums
- gum inflammation
- periodontal pocketing
- early signs of bone loss
Early intervention can prevent disease progression.
Scaling removes buildup from tooth surfaces and below the gums. Root planing smooths root surfaces to discourage bacterial reattachment and support healing.
Sedation or local anaesthesia may be used for comfort.
Patients are given guidance on:
- oral hygiene
- follow-up care
- maintenance visits
Ongoing periodontal maintenance plays an important role in long-term success.
In some cases, this treatment alone is sufficient. In others, additional care may be needed based on response and disease severity.
Testimonial

The team was professional and efficient, and everything was straightforward. Healing has been quick with no issues so far.
Would definitely recommend.

I came in for gum recession treatment with a lot of dental anxiety, but Dr. Hedge immediately put me at ease by listening to my concerns and clearly explaining everything.
The day of surgery, she and her staff went above and beyond to make me comfortable, even suggesting I bring a blanket and headphones. When I had a small issue after hours, Dr. Hedge responded quickly, even though it was the weekend.
It’s rare to find a dental office that combines such skill with genuine kindness, but this one truly does.

I can go on. I asked for an estimate on a deep cleaning and was told about $1000.00. I didn’t want a guess, I wanted an estimate. So I didn’t schedule the appointment.
Finally I payed for services rendered, but found out later that they filed a claim with my insurance company who eventually paid my bill in full. It took about six weeks for them to finally reimburse me.
I did a lot of research to find a periodontist that met my expectations I thought Dr Rachana was the right one. I was wrong. I’m never going back.

Scaling Root Utah - The First-Line Treatment for Gum Disease
When gum disease progresses beyond the point that regular hygiene visits can address, scaling root Utah, a deep, non-surgical periodontal cleaning is the recommended first course of action. At MVPerio, our board-certified periodontists use specialist instruments and techniques to remove hardened calculus deposits and bacterial biofilm from both above and below the gum line, reaching areas that standard cleaning cannot access. This procedure is highly effective at arresting the progression of early to moderate periodontal disease and, in many cases, eliminates the need for surgery when carried out thoroughly and followed up with diligent home care.
Scaling and Root Cleaning - Treating the Root Surface
Scaling and root cleaning involves two distinct phases: scaling, which removes calculus and plaque from the tooth surface and pocket; and root planing, which smooths the root surface to remove bacterial toxins and create an environment where gum tissue can reattach and heal. The procedure is typically carried out under local anaesthetic, and most patients are comfortably treated in one or two appointments depending on the severity of their condition. At MVPerio, our periodontists take the time to assess pocket depths, bone levels, and overall periodontal health before and after treatment to track your progress accurately.
Deep Teeth Cleaning and Scaling Root Planing - What Sets Specialist Care Apart
A deep teeth cleaning performed by a periodontist goes well beyond what is available at a general dental practice. Our specialists have in-depth training in the anatomy of the periodontal pocket, the behaviour of subgingival bacteria, and the clinical indicators that guide treatment decisions. When your general dentist refers you to MVPerio for scaling root planing, it is because they recognise that your condition requires a level of assessment and treatment that only a board-certified periodontist can provide. Following your scaling and root planing, we will provide a structured maintenance schedule and coordinate care with your referring dentist to protect the results long term.
Periodontal Maintenance After Treatment
Scaling and root planing is the beginning of a long-term management process, not a single cure. Following treatment, MVPerio recommends a periodontal maintenance programme, typically every three to four months to monitor pocket depths, remove new deposits before they progress, and sustain the health gains achieved through deep cleaning. Our team will work with you and your general dentist to design a maintenance plan that fits your lifestyle and keeps your gum health stable for the long term.
